BUSP
was created by clergy in 2001 with the goal of increasing homeownership.
It soon became clear that in order to help people become homeowners,
we needed to more than tell people that they should own their home.
We needed to provide supports to bridge the gap from renting to
owning. The common obstacles to homeownership are: credit issues,
lack of savings, and discouragement. These supports came in the
form of credit counseling, money management classes, homebuying
workshops and consultations.
BUSP believes that homeownership helps stabilize families, and in
turn neighborhoods and entire communities. Thus it is essential
to increase homeownership, not only for the sake of families, but
for the sake of our region as a whole.
